The Hotel was built in 2008 and was named Gilgal, which means "Rolled away”, after the place mentioned in the bible, where the Jewish people miraculously crossed the Jordan river just before entering the promised land. The account is told in the book of Joshua 5:9: "Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. So the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.” The historic site, Gilgal, is located on the east side of Jericho.
